February 17 , 2009 PMI Metrolina Chapter Meeting

Summary
The presentation will focus on "Every Three Ring Circus Needs a Ringmaster" and will be presented by Karen McIsaac, of Project Managers, Inc.
Have you ever been to the circus? When there are three rings with multiple performers in each ring, it’s practically impossible for the audience to see what is happening in all three rings at once. That’s why there is a Ringmaster who is in charge of communicating with the performers and also announcing to the audience what is going on.
PMI states that 90 percent of a project manager’s responsibility is communication. If that 90 percent is done effectively, your success rate will increase. The Ringmaster is an example of the power of communication - managing audience or customer expectations and providing leadership and direction to the three performing teams means the audience can follow what is happening and is much more likely to enjoy the show.
Just like a three ring circus would be chaos if not for the Ringmaster, in order for a project to be successful the project manager must act as a leader and communicate to all effectively. Project managers must juggle a multitude of project related activities and as the project manager you can be great at any of those activities. However, if you can communicate effectively to your team and the necessary participants, it won’t matter how great you are at planning or any other project related task because you will be able to manage the circus.
Chapter Meeting Presentations
As a means of helping chapter and local community members who are certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) satisfy the continuing education requirements for re-certification, PMI Metrolina Chapter arranges its monthly meeting schedule to allow a 1 hour PDU training session to be incorporated into its normal meeting.
Topics presented during these sessions are designed to not only satisfy the PDU requirement for re-certifying as a PMP, but to also provide wide appeal to people involved in project management regardless of whether or not they are certified PMPs. The 1-hour sessions meet the educational requirements to qualify for 1 PDU credits for maintaining PMP® certification or to meet the requirement for attending 35 hours of formal project management education prior to applying to sit for the PMP® exam.
The sessions are open to all.
Meetings are located at the Blake Hotel
555 South McDowell St.
Charlotte, NC 28273
